EXCALIBUR – EXploring ancient diet by using dental CALculus In archaeological BURial context

This PhD project will be conducted in close collaboration with our valued partners: INRAP (Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives), the Department of Prehistory, Archaeology and Ancient History at the University of Valencia (Spain), and the Institute of Evolutionary Science of Montpellier (France).

The anticipated start date of the project is 1st October 2025, and the PhD fellowship will span 36 months.

Eligibility Criteria

You can find the full eligibility guidelines here, but to summarise:

  • Open to applicants of any age and nationality.
  • Applicants must not hold a doctorate or be enrolled in another doctoral programme.
  • Must have less than four years of full-time research experience at the call deadline (starting from the first diploma qualifying for a doctorate).
  • Must not have resided or worked in France for more than 12 months in the 36 months preceding the deadline.
  • Must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) that qualifies for PhD enrolment in France at the time of recruitment.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum English proficiency of B1 (reading, writing, and speaking) according to the CEFR scale.
