How did diet and health evolve across Irish history?

On Thursday 29th May, Robert will present a talk at the Medieval Mile Museum in Kilkenny City exploring what ancient teeth can reveal about diet, disease, and everyday life in 15th- and 17th-century Kilkenny as part of the ERC-funded FOODCULT project.

While the Evolution of Dietary Diversity and the Transition to Agriculture in Europe focuses on dietary evolution, including Neolithic Ireland, the bioarchaeological methods used in this project have relevence for the study medieval populations and Early Modern populations. As dental analysis and calculus studies continue to provide valuable insights into how food, health, and culture changed over time.
